There is a distinctive feel to Paul Schrader movies and I can see his comparisons to Taxi Driver, though TD was a better film. the telling feature to this film for me was it was a showcase for the decade to come, full of flashy cars, drugs, promiscuous people, the rising acceptability of homosexuality and a distinctive lifestyle.
well worth watching.
