Review of American Gangster (2007) by Christianp. — 20 Feb 2008
I have my complaints like most people here (the music -- "Amazing Grace" at the end was so trite and a couple of times the score seemed to echo that of The Godfather, but in an awkward way that didn't fit/there was very little development of Washington's character.
We know he learned from the previous boss, but why is he so ruthless?) All that being said, this movie was very enjoyable. I feel like Crowe is easily one of the best actors of our time (A Beautiful Mind, The Insider, Cinderella Man, etc.
) and although he didn't have much to work with here, he delivers a very believable performance. Scott might not be at the top of his game, but this film is made will skill and precision. A very entertaining watch that leaves you wanting a bit more.
