Review of American Gangster (2007) by Linda — 27 Jan 2008
Excellent film. It doesn't contain gratuitous violence or the same played out gangster tale. The beauty is not only the acting, but the fact that you don't know which character you're pulling for - they're edgy and full of inconsistencies.
It may not be The Godfather, but what else is? This is an effective piece of narrative which captures a time period which is increasingly out of our reach. The director does an excellent job of capturing the feel of the times and weaving the various political and social turmoil.
