Review of American Gangster (2007) by Deepak C — 17 Jan 2012
When 2007 ends, this will very likely be the best film of the year. Forget the Academy, forget the critics. Nothing so far this year (that I've seen anyways) has provided the jolt that this film has.
Dark, somber, and intensely atmospheric, it takes the gangster film and gives it the Coppola treatment. If it has a flaw, it's that it reminded me quite a few times of other better gangster films (most often "The Godfather").
As a whole, though, this is one film not to miss. The best film since "The Departed" (but still not better than it).
