Review of American Gangster (2007) by Ryan V — 08 Feb 2012
There isn't anything in this "based on a true story" chronicle about a drug pusher's rise and fall that wasn't done earlier and better in films like Goodfellas or The Godfather. The paint-by-numbers script is, however, rescued from mediocrity by powerful acting courtesy of Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
Their face-off in the last few scenes is the stuff that celluloid dreams are made of.
