Review of American Gangster (2007) by Morgan M — 03 Sep 2012
Great cast, great director, "good" movie. Ya just good. Most of the hype around this Ridley Scott directed bio-pic says that, it is an American classic...except just about everything intriguing in this movie was already done in movies like, Blow, New Jack City and Godfather3. It's a loosely based bio-pic I know, so how far from the facts can you actually stray to make this an original gangster movie?
Solid performances from Denzel Wasington and Russell Crowe. I always like Denzel when he takes on "riskier roles". Russell Crowe captures a real essence here, I believe his character. This movie has all the right ingredients to be a classic like Scarface or Blow, it's just too bad they came out first.
