Review of American Gangster (2007) by Damjan R — 05 Jan 2013
The acting is pretty good, but that's a given. Ridley Scott is directing so that must be a good sign right? Kind of. The failing element in this film for me, is that I'm supposed to care about any of this, just because it really happened.
The social commentary is really unnecessary and for me it hurts the film, other than that, the story is like the one in many gangster films, but it isn't as good as the best ones, because it's not really about anything.
It's just a retelling of that period and about some events that just happened at that time. Technically speaking it isn't unappealing, but it just didn't get me to care about any of it, maybe because I've seen this so many times it's not even funny.
Still, I could recommend it, but only if nothing else is on.
