Review of American Gangster (2007) by Dylan D — 16 Sep 2013
Scott is one of the more inconsistent directors; I put off seeing this film for quite some time and I wish I didn't. It's the best gangster/crime film since Martin Scorsese's Casino. Both leads deliver some of their finest work in a long time and the supporting cast steals the movie (where the hell did Josh Brolin come from and where has he been all these years prior).
The period detail is solid and the music reminded me of the 70s era. I don't put it up with his other classics like Blade Runner or Alien, but I think it's his best film of the 2000s.
