Review of American Gangster (2007) by Nik M — 20 Dec 2012
Another trip away so it means I go to the cinema again on my own! Really, really great film, telling the true story of Frank Lucas, who sets about to become one of the biggest crime bosses in 1970's USA. Denzel Washington plays the part really well, and is a world apart from his role in 'Man on Fire', there's a real sense of menace from him, and a real departure from his usual roles.
Russell Crowe, who I normally can't be doing with is really decent in it as well, and for the geeks, there's a few references to The French Connection, which the film is clearly heavilly infiuenced by.
A running time of about 2 and a half hours never feels that long though, and it's well worth seeing, decent soundtrack as well, which I may need to acquire !
