A direct, unflinching look at the life of Frank Lucas, a drug kingpin who ruled New York in the 1960s and 70s. While Denzel's character is the most compelling, Crowe is the true star here as the impatient, horny, and head strong Detective Richie Roberts.
The film aspires to be a new "Godfather," but will have to settle for a piercing character study of Lucas, Roberts, and the American way.
