Review of American Dreamz (2006) by Carl-Johan F — 28 May 2008
Though I seriously tried to like this movie, if for nothing other than the castâ?¦Mandy Moore, Dennis Quaid, Hugh Grant, Willem Dafoe, Marcia Gay Harden, Jennifer Coolidgeâ?¦there just really wasnâ??t that much to like. But there was a lot to dislike, which explains the one and a half star rating.
It seemed a lot like Drop Dead Gorgeous, which was much better, probably because of the whole mockumentary style of filmmaking. And it was much more laugh out loud funny. It also saddened me how they tried to make a joke out of Dennis Quaidâ??s character; the President of the United States. It was an obvious spoof of George W. Bush and I found it very offensive. They had no real evidence against him and it only made a doofus of the character. If that were really how Bush was, he never would have won two times, like he did.
But worst of all, was the ending. It was a mockery of everything else the film had showed us. It tried to make us laugh over things that werenâ??t funny at all and then showed us something that really wasnâ??t funny, just the opposite in fact. But it seemed that they thought it was, and that right there is worse than any President Iâ??ve seen so far.
