Review of American Dreamz (2006) by Michel F — 08 Feb 2010
To start with, I quote someone who has written a review on this just a few days before I do, LadyDavie:
'Definitely commentary on the state of our country in 2006, it is relevant and witty at the same time. It does tend to be too judgmental at times, but I don't think people who choose to see this movie will mind.' (gave it a 60%).
This is about the same what I was about to write in my review except for the thing that I'm not an American. I want to add something to it however. I think this movie had a real idea about what it was going to tell, but it failed to deliver the message in the way it was intended. Indeed, it had its witty moments and sometimes even nicely punctuated real important questions and aspects that were not only relevant to the US in these days but remain important to more Western countries today. However, most of the time these issues were not convincing(ly presented). It was like an American describing the Western society through 'American glasses'. This is certainly not convincing for anyone outside of the US and most obviously it is too exaggerated for Americans, too. So what's left? - Well, at least a good try and a reminder to question what is going on around us, and how things develop that seem to be meant to fulfill dreams but actually turn out to be filthy business. Thus, worth a watch? Not necessarily, although you can give it a try!
