Review of American Dreamz (2006) by Rowie B — 21 Oct 2007
Despite the annoyingness of Mandy Moore in this film, I actually quite enjoyed it. Hugh Grant played his usual womanising, charmer of a character he seems to often be typecast in but it worked well. Surprisingly I liked Dennis Quaid in this film - he played the role of clueless president perfectly.
I think the main reason I enjoyed this film was for its socio-political allegory rather than the one level way of looking at it as a film about a singing competition. A clever satire about the modern day obsession with reality shows mixed with terror plots and suicide bombers.
... somehow it all gelled.
