Review of American Beauty (1999) by Jonas K — 18 Oct 2013

I just watched this movie 5 minutes ago and figured I need to make a review right away because this is in my opinion a beautiful masterpiece that I never expected. I really didn`t know what to expect, only thing I did expect was it to be good judging by all the nominations this movie got when it first came out.

I was not prepared for this tear jerker spectacle that is American Beauty. The acting is fantastic with everyone delivering amazing performances. The soundtrack is easily some of the most beautiful I have ever heard and worked so well with establishing the tone of each scene.

This movie is alot more deep than you would think at first glance and as the movie goes along you will be so intrigued in the characters that you just don`t know what to do. How every character experience a change in their life, that the moment they live in is crucial to who they will end up as in the future.

Life is too short, and that you need to let it all sink in, take care of the memories that brings you joy, cherish the moments we all share in a world filled with wonder. It brings me optimism and hope, that beneath the dust lies beauty.

The camera shots are pure art, living paintings if you will. I saw countless shots where they had the same position not stopping the shot and just letting it sink in. It`s moments like thoes that makes you think over the movie one more time and then you realise how magical and thought provoking this movie really is.

There are some unexpected twists in this that brings it to an entierly new level and it was at the end I decided to give this film the highest score possible. There are just no words for me to describe what I felt watching this movie.

It`s something you have to watch for yourselfe and I can tell you, it deserved every single nomination it got because this is some of cinema`s finest work.
