Review of American Beauty (1999) by Andrew S — 08 Apr 2014
American Beauty has been one of my favorite films of all time ever since I originally saw it. From the opening of the film, you're hooked, and Mendes never disappoints, but rather pushes the story further and further, dabbling in and out of hand held footage, surreal dream sequences and traditional narratives.
A film to be analyzed, American Beauty boasts never ending layers and themes that are to be recognized by intellectual audiences. All of the actors gave it their all in this picture, except for Birch who seemed to be an actress of little experience, and a flaw on an otherwise flawless film.
I could list thousands of compliments in regards to this film, but what is most admirable is the way it all molds together beautifully.
