American Assassin shares about 5% content with the book. I get trying to make the story more contemporary but the movie falls flat. The initial training sequence is dumb. The film leaves the book behind when there is no reason to do so.
The subplot of the ex student who turns evil has been played out. Here it is just lazy story telling. The trailer is the best part of the film.
