Review of American Assassin (2017) by Mitch S — 29 Sep 2017
Having not read the books I have little to compare it to, but I personally enjoyed the film adaptation of Mitch Rapp's origin story. While it wasn't a blow-me-away original tale, it's version of political espionage was still well done.
The hand to hand combat was reminiscent of Jason Bourne and wasn't overdone. I found there were a couple select fight scenes where the environment played a key role in the entertainment value, making a generic final battle more of a standout moment, for example.
The film's depiction of a nuclear detonation was entertaining and more believable than many in recent cinema. Also, I felt the opening scene's terror attack was very realistically done, to the point where I was hooked and shaken.
All in all, I would see this film again and will likely add it to my physical collection. Theater not necessary unless you like really loud abrupt gunfire eruptions.
