Review of America: Imagine the World Without Her (2014) by Michael J — 21 Jul 2014
Not a perfect movie, not quite as good as "2016," but production values are high and the narrative handles controversy with respect. D'Souza interviews his antagonists, giving them ample opportunity to express their perspectives, and then he responds, revealing historical evidence that compellingly challenges the anti-American indictments. Excellent blending of documentary footage and historical dramatizations, which are well done and powerful, but not overplayed.
The last ten minutes were ham-handed. While I'm usually the last one to leave the theater, I'd leave when the credits start. The movie already made you feel good about America with solid arguments. The rocked-out version of the Star Spangled Banner is just awkwardly sentimental overkill - and embarrassing if you dragged along someone a bit to the left.
