Review of Amélie (2001) by Ciarán A — 23 Sep 2011
One of my favourite films of all time: Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amà (C)lie Poulain is a film that probably doesn't suit the modern cinema-goer as it requires thought and attention. This film is one that really makes the spectator turn around to think about their life at the end.
It is a touching look from a different angle at the monotony of life and how all it takes is one person doing something wonderful to take away the drabness of existence and leave only light an colour in its place.
Apart from the gorgeous Audrey Tautou, the main draw of this feature, for me, is Yann Tiersen's masterful soundtrack that really punctuates the emotions that the visuals and story are bringing across.
This soundtrack is not all written for the film but certain pieces were skilfully imposed into the film by director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. This film is a must see for any true lover of film.
