Review of Amelia (2009) by Stani S — 05 Feb 2010
I have been wanting to view this film for quite some time now. Though I have been reading the negative press surrounding this film, I was still interested in watching it, nonetheless. I enjoy watching movies that are based on true events -- it makes the film a little more interesting to watch.
I do think this film's main cast did a wonderful job portraying their characters, I was having a bit of problem with the minor roles and the supporting cast. One problem I encountered was their accent.
I thought everyone back then spoke in a different American accent. I noticed some of the minor characters -- mostly the younger characters -- spoke like they were from current era. What's up with that? Amelia was talking in a whole different way compared to those young characters.
I found that quite odd and it bothered me a little bit. I was hoping the film could have been more "authentic". Probably not in the history or the story, but at least with the cast. One thing I enjoyed was the film's art direction.
It seemed the film put a lot of effort in bringing the old 1930s to life. The film's story and interesting. Though I noticed it skipped several important historical reference, but I guess if they film did mentioned all important events, the film could have been three+ hours long.
Overall, the film was quite entertaining. I have researched about Amelia in the past and viewing this film made me research on her life a little bit more. The film's score was alright. It could have been epic and sweeping, but it wasn't.
