Review of Amelia (2009) by Kate P — 07 Feb 2010
The story of a woman who lived and loved on her own terms and had real adventure. It's gorgeous and it depicts one of the few ideal romances in history. With all the adventure and beauty that is this story, though, I wish Mira Nair had done something a little more.
...active. It was like she sat back and let it happen, and forgot to turn on the camera for some of it. The story she captured was real and vibrant and I give her props for bringing that to life, but damn it, this movie involves art deco and great costumery and FLYING and the beauty of the world and jazz clubs and the fact that it is not the greatest movie ever made is a problem.
