Review of Amelia (2009) by Roxanne R — 15 Feb 2010
Very interesting look into the life of Amelia Earhart, the lady that defied the odds and became not only a pilot but managed to cross the Atlantic flying solo. Sadly her attempt to fly around the world ended in tragedy as she vanished along with her navigator over the Pacific ocean in July 2, 1937.
Fantastic acting by Hilary Swank who plays Amelia Earhart, Richard Gere who plays her husband and business partner George Putnam and Ewan McGregor who play G Vidal. This movie is a celebration of the spirit of adventure, of travel, of life! To quote an excerpt from the movie towards the end: "Everyone has oceans to fly.
As long as you have the heart to do it. Is it reckless? Maybe but what do dreams know of boundaries?" Despite the largest rescue mission conducted by the US Government, her plane Electra was never recovered.
Her fate has intrigued the world for generations. The director, Mira Nair scores big on this beautiful film about a true American legend. Highly recommended!!!
