Review of Amelia (2009) by Meaghan C — 06 Mar 2010
Mira Nair's telling of Amelia's life story is painful and reductive. The film makes one of the most inspiring female role models into a romanticized figure. We see Richard Gere's face more than the actual wings of a plane.
Romance is lovely, but when it comes to a history that is curious and often untold... why do you emblesh the romance and not the actual history. Just because a female heroine is central to a biopic does not mean that the film should automatically induce romance and scandulous affairs.
What a disappointment.
