Review of Amelia (2009) by Colin B — 17 Mar 2010

I really liked this film. Hillary looks the part, and plays the role perfectly. The aerial shots are truly breathtaking. I can't explain why other viewers aren't so impressed, except maybe to say they are expecting surpises from a story whose tragic ending is known in advance. Perhaps it needed spicing up here and there, but that could tend towards a worse result: fictionalization of a biopic. If I have a complaint, it is that the film was too short! Maybe Nair could have included more outdoors shots, more of what made Amelia a sought after speaker on the lecture circuit: anecdotes of what Amelia saw and did when she landed in those exotic and remote parts of Africa, Asia, Australia...

I salute Mira Nair for trying to keep the dialogue authentic... there should be more, many more biopics like this one... I want to see it again!
