Review of Amelia (2009) by Nathaniel D — 25 Nov 2010
Now you'd think the life of someone who was the first woman to cross the Atlantic solo, and indeed only the second person to achieve it at all, to be really interesting, sadly Amelia is not. The interesting parts i.e the crossings are portrayed very quickly and with hardly any drama or presence. That is until the last flight where she tries to fly round the world which of course is right at the end because we all know what happens there. However before that part you get to spend 2 hrs watching Amelia have a cup of tea with people raising money to fly.
The trouble is Amelia Earhart's life, between the flying, doesn't appear to be interesting in any way, unless it was and Mira Nair hasn't done it any justice whatsoever. We don't get to see any of her childhood, presumably because it's dull, just plunged into her adult hood where she meets her husband, flys a bit then we fade to a shot of the ocean.
Too long, too boring and just not interesting enough.
