Review of Amber Alert (2012) by Dan H — 30 Mar 2013
I'm gonna give this 4 stars. Not because It's a great film. Or even because it's a memorable film... But because it's gotten a bad reputation by the general audience who can't appreciate it for what it is.
As found footage films go, this is by far the most interesting and engaging I've seen in years. It's constantly being slammed for the lack of common sense on the part of the main characters...
But if you applied that theory to every film you see, how many movies would've ended within the first 20 minutes, or in a boring or anticlimactic fashion... Realism in films is great, but too much can ruin a film.
No one would make a movie about what 99 out of 100 people would've done in this scenario... It's the far fetched, out of the ordinary that makes for a good plot. I think, considering the budget, the unknown cast, and the filmmakers limitations, this was a very solid, and supremely underrated film that will be appreciated more by movie buffs than the general audience.
