Review of Amadeus (1984) by Jonathan B — 25 Nov 2010
This is a fantastic movie. It's basically about the great genius of a silly Mozart as seen through the eyes of the pompous, bitterly jealous royal court composer Salieri. His pure reverence for Mozart's musical brilliance must coexist with deep antipathy for Mozart's frivolousness of character, which festers in Salieri into a private war against God for being so unfair.
The script is very tight, and the tone throughout is quietly comedic while maintaining its pathos. I think this is my favorite movie of all time.
