Review of Amadeus (1984) by Aimee A — 19 Aug 2010
My fondest memories of watching it were in a music history class when I was seventeen. I remember absolutely falling in love with it and gushing over it and no one knew about it. This is without a doubt one of the most extravagant films ever made.
Just watching the glorious pastel colored sets and costumes transports you to the ancientness of Vienna. It may not be historically accurate but it doesn't matter since it's BASED on a play anyway.
There are so many well thought out scenes that make it superior. Why aren't films like this made anymore? The casting is pure genius. Mozart's music as the basic soundtrack is the stuff dreams are made of.
Absolutely recommend the director's cut and be granted that if you do see it, you'll be in for the most exciting three hours of your life. I don't find the pace an annoyance and I feel like every scene is important to the story.
WELL WORTH IT.
