Review of Amadeus (1984) by Rachel H — 07 Dec 2010
Stephanie's Favourite Movies: Amadeus.
This is one of my favourite movies of all time for a reason. This is an almost perfect movie, the only thing wrong with it is it's historical inaccuracy. One thing I've noticed about musical biopics is that there hasn't been any other movies about Mozart besides this one. There's been a ton of movies about Beethoven, but none about Mozart. I think that's probably because this one was so good that nobody thought they could top it so they just didn't bother.
You need to appreciate culture and music to see this movie. If your idea of the greatest songwriter of all time is someone like Taylor Swift or Drake, you will not like this movie. If you have a knowledge of the great composers of the era, then you will definitely like this movie, despite it's historical inaccuracies. This is a perfect portrayal of one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time, the legendary Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The story is well told and the pacing keeps things moving quickly. I don't really remember the end of this movie, but I have a feeling that it was in regards to his death, but I would have to watch the movie again to find out, which I would gladly do, without the force-viewing helmet or without heavy opiates or hallucinogens (neither of which I use). This is an excellent epic biopic of a musical genius that, despite it's inaccuracies, depicts the opulence and major success of Mozart's lifestyle.
If you're a........
Kid- skip this movie.
Single childless average moviegoer- depends on the next question.
A classical music fan- a must see.
A parent- see above.
All in all, a great movie, one of my all time favourites.
