Review of Always (1989) by Luke P — 26 Nov 2007
Often skipped over, unfairly, when people talk about Steven Spielberg's extensive back catalogue, Always is actually a sweet, funny little film. A remake of the 1943 film A Guy Named Joe (Spielberg's only remake), this film features spectacular airborne and firefighting scenes, and plenty of visual ingenuity from Spielberg.
It also features brilliant performances from Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter, as well as John Goodman doing what he does best. It also features the last screen appearance of the effervescent Audrey Hepburn.
It also has one hell of an emotional ending, with powerful things to say about love, grief and moving on. This ending could make a grown man cry. Not me though....
