Review of Always (1989) by Chris C — 17 Oct 2008
The easiest thing to say about this film is competent. The story is fine, the acting is fine, everything is fine, if not excellent. However, there are three things I want to point out. First, the flying sequences are terrific.
They are intense, exciting, and fun. Some of the best I have seen. Second, Brad Johnson's character is a plot device. Hes' not unlikeable, and the actor does a fine job, but his character is never given motives or complexities.
Its a shame, because they could have done more with him easily. Third, I love me some Richard Dreyfuss. He's one of the actors I can watch a bad movie (see: Tin Man) and enjoy it because of him. Also, Audrey Hepburn is terrific in her final performance.
Not a unqualified success, but most definitely worth a watch.
