Review of Always (1989) by Julia A — 24 Jan 2010
Apart from some spectacular footage of forest fires and the amazing aerial efforts to put them out, this Spielberg effort based on the classic Spencer Tracy vehicle 'A Guy Named Joe' has little to recommend it.
Holly Hunter is cute as always, but Dreyfuss is terribly miscast as a fire-fighting pilot - he's also annoying as hell. None of the characters feel believable, and there's some real hokey dialogue.
Gets schmaltzly from the word go and keeps the saccharine coming until the overwrought end.
