The Gist.

The Squeakquel is about Alvin and the Chipmunks and when their guardian Dave gets hurt at a concert they have to be watched by his nephew Toby. Dave enrolls them in school and they soon meet The Chipettes who are the girl versions of them. The principal asks them to compete in Music Mania (an event to help them save the music program) but when The Chipettes want to compete too a competition arises. They then decide to duke it out in a mini-competition.

What We Think.

I went and saw this movie today with a few of my friends and thought it was just OK. This movie was basically an exact replica of the first movie only they added girl clones of The Chipmunks. The music that they sang was ehh and was just more recent stuff then the first movie. I think that the first one was better and if your going to see one that is the better one to see. There were a couple of parts where I did find myself laughing and Theodore is always really cute to watch. If you know of someone who has little kids then this is the perfect movie for them because it is short and cute. Other than that if you are going to the movies and there is nothing else to see, see The Chipmunks you never know maybe you will be pleasantly surprised.

I went to see this in theaters with North and Dream because we wanted to go to the movies and there was really nothing else to see. I sort of gave up watching the first one, and left my living room before it was over when my sister watched it. However, there isn't a whole lot from the first that carries into the second movie, so I wasn't confused or anything. The only real thing that carried over was the bad guy, who was kind of a sketch. The three girl chipmunks were sort of annoying, but then so are the three boy chipmunks. The guy watching them, Toby, is a tool. No other word to describe the kid. But hey, he finds love in the end so whoopee for him (except he's still a tool just a tool with a girl.) The whole chipmunks going to school thing was kind of a silly plot line, but I guess since the first movie did so well the movie producers just wanted to capitalize on that. It was really cheesy that all the girl chipmunks were essentially perfect for all the guy chipmunks, but that's the way kids movies work. There were some pretty funny, even occasionally witty, parts to this movie, which surprised me. The music was much better than I gave it credit for (though it still wasn't great.) Overall, this wasn't a terrible movie, but I wouldn't go searching to see it again.
