Review of Altered States (1980) by Grant W — 25 May 2008
I loved this movie on so many different levels. The story is about how mixing sensory depravation and psychedelic drugs can take you to the very edge of humanity and beyond. Imagine the perfect mix between the works of Terrence McKenna and the cinematography of David Cronenberg.
It features some of the most amazing, tripped out sequences I've ever seen, it's pure eye candy for the wicked, a visionary masochistic orgasm. The hypnotic music and blistering special effects (1980!) only add to the already mesmerizing experience.
