Review of Altered States (1980) by Derek H — 02 Aug 2009
I really liked where this was going, William Hurt is simple captivating to watch in this movie, the passion is all there and you genuinely connect with his plight and intrigue of our existence. However the story will either lose you or keep you following towards the end, as intrigue and grounded reality is exchanged for a sci-fi shape shifting that you will either roll with or giggle at.
The metaphors are all there and its probably worth a re-watch to fully understand. The 1980's special effects are occasionally very laughable. A film that will seriously make you think and one that you will remember but for the right reasons?
