Review of Altered States (1980) by Philip M — 29 Nov 2007
Take mushrooms, loose plot, baad!
But still looks good after 27 years. Russell as overblown as ever pumped this full of very far out sequences straight from early Pink Floyd type gigs.
It is loosely based on a real person JC Lilly who went from nearly respectable anthropologist/ethnographer to freind and cohort of T Leary after 'discovering' that most of human civilisaiton is based on halucinogenic trancedent experiences. The visual effects are still very arresting and the parlour drama sub-plot hangs things together nicely.
Verdict: always good for a laff on a cold winter's day!
