Review of Altered States (1980) by Daniel D — 27 Jun 2012
It seemed in part like a retelling of Jekyll and Hyde. The first half was impressive, reminded me of John S Lilly and his experiments of psychedelics in sensory deprivation tanks, then the movie just seemed to descend into some ridiculous lie, pre-schoolers or/and serious genetic defects might fall for.
Maybe the author, or perhaps Ken Russell's kids had just turned 14 when the idea to make this movie struck him.
