Review of Altered States (1980) by Guillaume H — 02 Jan 2014
This is great storytelling and great screenwriting by an author with vision. It avoids falling into science mumbojumbo by taking an all encompassing anthropologic point of view instead of miring itself in the genetics.
The direction is total Ken Russell but I was worried the hallucinations would get cheezy for a moment, then it quickly become epic and truly compelling. Oh and the final ''i love you'' is one of the most charged ive ever seen in films, as its litterally the meaning of life and the motor of it.
Blair Brown is Unforgettable and truly skilled and rich in there. the script is paddy chayevsky and comparing it to his other great works, Network and the Hospital,, show how visionary was this writer.
