Review of Alphaville (1965) by Ian H — 27 Jun 2007
The plot is not essential to follow; this is basically Godard's commentary on an emerging technocracy and the repression of love, art and self-expression. This film is a bridge between Godard's earlier, stylist noir (Breathless, etc.) and his jarring collage films of the 70s and 80s, although the separation is not that distinct.
"Why?" "No, because.".
