Review of Alphaville (1965) by Frances B — 20 Aug 2007
It's not godard's fault that i'm sick and tired of distopian stories but many of his ideas in this film are trite/hackneyed. while I didn't enjoy the content, I loved the experimentation (as always with godard).
the last 30 minutes/the more "poetic" moments were wonderful! in the end though, if you remove reference or allegory from the equation, all he has is his imaginative cinematic playfulness. not my favourite godard film.
