Review of Alphaville (1965) by Anthony V — 05 Jul 2008
My feelings are mixed, and a volatile mixture at that. Godard's amateurish camerawork is the same annoying adolescent rebellion tactic it always was, and the noir plot is mind-numbingly boring. Between all that, you have magnificent scenes of poetic monologues by a supercomputer accompanied by bizarre schematic images--I think they make it worthwhile.
