Review of Alpha Dog (2006) by Jesse T — 17 Aug 2009

Great, even excellent performances by pretty much everyone involved; if only Nick Cassavetes had honed his directorial skills a little bit better. The editing is awkward in part, and the style of the film (half documentary, half narrative) comes off as more and more awkward as the film plods along.

One major character is forgotten in the epilogue, and certain camera angles and edits are so poorly choosen they end up being distracting. Cassavetes clearly knows how to direct actors, but much like his sub-par "John Q" he doesn't always seem to know what to do with the camera.
