Review of Alpha Dog (2006) by Rainer K — 05 Jan 2012
Maybe this will become a cult film in some years. Nick Cassavetes assembled a bunch of then young and fresh actors such as Anton Yelchin, Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Emile Hirsch, Amber Heard and Justin Timberlake in his acting debut and made sure that future generations will remember Alpha Dog for this fact alone.
With young actor come shaky acting and the film is no exception - although some scenes are great and especially Yelchin's screen presence is amazing, there are also quite some flaws in it (not only acting-wise).
Nevermind the acting though, the film is lame anyways. There's drugs and immense use of the f-bomb beside some other foul language and a kidnapping plot based on a true story which I couldn't really engage with.
Nothing memorable and nothing I haven't seen before, all in all very ordinary (except for the cast of course).
