Review of Alpha and Omega (2010) by Kyle J — 21 Feb 2018

This gets two stars for only one reason, and that is for the character of Lilly.

Other than that, this movie is predictable, lazily written, and has no identity.

Where to even start... First, let's not even list all the obvious cringe-worthy references to other movies, such as Balto, Lion King, and Happy Feet, and the numerous plot holes this film creates in the first 30 minutes alone. Heck. The movie couldn't even fully explain why the two packs were even fighting/feuding in the first place, despite the fact that the two leaders respected each other to a degree and agreed in several key areas. Second, all the characters, with the exception, of course, of Lilly were either unlikable, bland, one-dimensional, or just plain forgettable. If that writers had put Lilly and Garth in place of Humphrey and Kate as main characters, this movie would have been a lot better off, because those two were a complete bore complete to Lilly and Garth. I would rather see more of the secondary couple rather than the primary one. If I can say that in a film such as this, then this film has failed. Finally, the animation itself and design of the characters is so second-rate. I swear some of the characters look like rejects from other franchises, passing themselves off of wolves, while the backgrounds are just ok. Keep in mind; Other animated films that came out the exact same years as this one included How to Train Your Dragon, Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga'Hoole, Despicable Me, Tangled, and Toy Story 3. Compare the animation in those films to this... You will laugh in how bad this one is as to those ones.

To put it bluntly, if you're a fan of wolves, stick to Balto. You'll get a "howling" better time there.
