Gorgeous cinematography and solid acting tell a story that really pull on the heartstrings of any dog lover. While I'm sure it took longer than one trek to forge the relationship we have with "man's best friend," it covers the things that would have made friendship possible; shared meals, cooperative hunting, shared body heat in the cold, and mutual protection.
It was fairly unflinching in showing how brutal life might have been then. Not for young kids who might be upset by the violence of prehistoric living.
