Review of Along Came Polly (2004) by Jordan K — 14 Feb 2015
Along Came Polly is a cult classic, I presume, but isn't well recieved by critics - I myself disagree, it's mediocre at best and feels extremely rushed and over the line cliched, but it's fun and is still a good ride, even if it's a bit dull and stupid at points.
Ben Stiller playing the same character he always seems to in every movie once again is a bland workaholic who explores new territory in life when dating old middle school classmate Polly Prince. Ben attempts to balance his ex-wife, Polly, and his career along the lines of common risk.
Along Came Polly is just meh. It's really just simple fun, nothing harmless to it except the story seems waaaay too quick and the characters are a bit bland. Stiller and Aniston don't seem to have much chemistry and neither do Stiller and Hoffman - who I honestly saw Jack Black fitting the line more for Hoffman's goofy former actor buddy role - but it's still fun. Some parts are a bit dumb, such as the blind ferret Polly owns, and it's a cliche date movie at its finest, but nothing beats fun unless it's over the top, in this case, it's just flawed.
