Review of Alone in the Dark (1982) by John C — 23 Aug 2010
Having only seen this movie once, I decided to watch it again to review it, and although I don't regret it, it was no where near as enjoyable the second time as it was the first. The bad acting by Reid and Dorff cover up Slater's routinely bad acting, and although the creatures themselves were a decent creation, the storyline just fell a tad short of a great story.
Slater plays a paranormal investigator, flying solo from his previous job with the government's paranormal organization Bureau 713. Raised in an orphanage, he is prone to having nightmares that involve him as a child that he can't explain. As the movie progresses, he finds he and the current Bureau 713 are searching for the same answers involving a long lost tribe called the Abkani and rare artifacts from their era that are being found throughout the world.
A monster movie in the style of The Relic, but no where having the casting power of a Tom Sizemore or Penelope Ann Miller, this film tries to showcase its monster and does an ok job at it, however the rest of the film falls short.
