Review of Aloha (2015) by Brian B — 16 Aug 2015
"Aloha" is not Crowe's best work, but there are great perspectives on personal reality that is only seen in Crowe's films. Casting, (despite hasty lashings from the media for casting Stone as Allison Ng) is adequate, even a Danny McBride appearance that's hard to hate; and Cooper shoulders a lead like no else working in the industry today.
Though it will never be as heralded as "Jerry Maguire" or "Almost Famous"... and even if critics deem this as, "a great directors worst film", that's still a helluva a lot better than the middling dramas we see from the who's who directing class that exists today.
And more so, fans of Crowe's filmography will find enough familiar tones to enjoy this story of redemption. Rated 3 out of 5. Reviewed 8/12/15.
