Review of Almost Heroes (1998) by Tom R — 30 Jan 2010
Upfront you should know that Almost Heroes isn't that funny. It's got a humorous premise but a lot of jokes fall flat or are way too tame. Despite all this, I actually kind of liked the movie. Chris Farley (who yells at least half of his lines) and Mathew Perry are nicely cast and Eugene Levy plays a character I haven't seen before.
.. usually he's stuck playing awkward characters or supporting roles in bad sex comedies. Despite having a funny director (Christopher Guest, who's a long way from mockumentary territory) the movie doesn't really satirize Lewis and Clark but instead goes for long comedic bits and pratfalls we've seen in numerous other movies.
I'll admit I laughed a few times, though. I give Almost Heroes a very limited recommendation, but a recommendation nonetheless.
