Review of Almost Heroes (1998) by Sleez B — 15 Jul 2012
Almost Heroes is easily one of the late Chris Farleyâ(TM)s best films although it could have been better. His past films always subjugated him to humiliation, physical pain, and slapstick, but Almost Heroes spares him at times to allow others to fall in that category.
Yet, I laughed a lot in this film from beginning to end as Farley puts a lot of energy and effort while Matthew Perry puts on obnoxious and prudent performances. I was amused by Eugene Levy as the French tour guide and Lisa Barbuscia countering Sacagawea.
The film takes place in the very early 1800s as Perry and Farley leads a group of misfits to counter and beat Louis and Clarkâ(TM)s expedition to the Pacific Ocean. As you expect in every road comedy, things go wrong on all levels and they encounter a group of Spanish soldiers dressing like its 1511.
Oh yeah, this is not really hilarious, but it is entertaining and funny on all kinds of levels. I was surprised at the filmâ(TM)s ending forsaken everything the thesis of the film and goal.
